Las Leñas Ski Resort: Everything You Need to Know

Snowy ski resort in the Andes mountains

Where Is Las Leñas?

Las Leñas is located in the Valle de Leñas, in the department of Malargüe, about 450 kilometers south of Mendoza city. It sits at an altitude ranging from 2,240 meters (base) to 3,430 meters (summit), giving it some of the most reliable and deep snow in the Southern Hemisphere. The resort is about 5–6 hours by road from Mendoza city, or roughly 1 hour by charter flight during peak season.

The Mountain: Runs and Terrain

Las Leñas has 60+ marked runs spread across 60 kilometers of skiable terrain, served by 14 lifts including a gondola and several chairlifts. The mountain suits all levels — long, wide groomed runs for beginners and intermediates, and serious off-piste terrain for experts. The resort sits in a natural bowl that catches storms coming off the Pacific, and in good years the snowfall can be enormous — Las Leñas is famous for its powder days, which is why it has attracted a global following of serious skiers.

When to Go

The ski season runs from late June to early October, with peak conditions typically in July and August. The resort is most crowded during Argentine and Brazilian school holidays in July. Shoulder months (June and October) can be excellent with lower crowd levels.

Accommodation and Getting There

Las Leñas has its own self-contained village at the base with hotels, restaurants, bars, and a casino. Most visitors arrive via Mendoza — the drive takes 5–6 hours along Ruta 40 through the Malargüe desert, a spectacular but long journey. Charter flights from Mendoza to Malargüe airport are also available.
